Thekla Lark - Galerida theklae

Thekla Lark

A Thekla Lark at Sagres. Note the rather short, stout bill with a concave lower edge.

The separation of Thekla and Crested Larks provides one of the most difficult identification challenges among all Europe’s birds. More distinct streaking in the breast, greyer upperparts plumage, more reddish-toned uppertail-coverts, greyish rather than cinnamon underwing-coverts and bill shape are distinguishing features but all require careful observation. Go to Sagres, as all the Galerida larks there are Theklas.
