The Hoopoe is probably the best known and loved of the Algarve birds. These birds prefer open woodland and cultivated country such as vineyards, orchards, parks, large gardens and the numerous golf courses to be found in the region. The specimens on this page were photographed on a newly mown lawn near Praia da Rocha, and in Tavira.
