| Review |
A thoroughly readable
reference book by two very knowledgeable practitioners. The writers
concentrate on practicalities rather than esoterics, and that is
very timely with Government's recent initiative to set of a
Fisheries Legislative Review Group for England and Wales. Anyone
keen to make a positive contribution to the Review would be well
advised to read this clear and well structured discussion of the
present laws relating to angling.
Legal net fishing, as well as illegal fishing and the legal
process for regulation and law enforcement are also featured, but
the main emphasis is on the law as it affects those who fish by
angling methods and those who own, rent or lease fisheries.
A valuable inclusion is a set of 'model' angling club rules and
byelaws, while issues of conflict with other river users are
discussed in an appropriately unemotional and clear style. Case
references add authority to a book strongly recommended to angling
clubs, owners and others interested in understanding the current
legislation and how it has evolved. And, with the Review currently
in progress, it will prove invaluable to those seeking to contribute
effectively to developing future legislation relating to angling.
