| This is without doubt the
best-selling fishing book of the 20th century. And now a 21st
century edition is available... great news!
Some two million and more anglers learned to fish with Mr
Crabtree, both via the Daily Mirror cartoon strip and then this
wonderful illustrated guide; I was one of them. And on the rare but
precious occasions when I am still able to go fishing with Bernard
Venables, I am constantly reminded just exactly why his book has
been so popular over the years: it is the essence of concern for the
environment, the quarry and the image of angling that shines through
those black-and-white drawings of Mr C and young Peter.
The colour pictures between the sections - spring, summer, autumn
and winter - are typically Crabtree: they capture the excitement,
the grace of the perch, the beauty of a shoal of dace, the ferocity
of a pike. And not a stockie rainbow trout in sight!
If you missed the first edition, get this one. If you didn't...
get it in any case, as I have done.
Simply a classic that will never be surpassed.
