Pat O'Reilly demonstrating the Spey Cast with a single-handed rod

Learn to Spey cast with singe and double-handed rods. We teach all salmon casts including overhead, single and double Spey, snake rolls etc. Lessons are available on the river or, if you prefer, at a local stillwater fishery with casting platforms.

This sequence shows the single-Spey cast made with a single-handed rod. The secret of Spey casting is smoothness of action; jerking the rod causes poor presentation and is unnecessarily hard work. By applying a double-haul when Spey casting it is not difficult to shoot a full fly line on the forward cast.
