Pollack of over 10lb (4.5kg) are frequently caught from wreck 'marks' around the coast of Wales. The Welsh rod-caught record was caught from a boat in Cardigan Bay in 1991 and weighed 22lb (10kg).

These hard-fighting fish also feature in catches from the rocks and occasionally from storm beaches.

The pollack is a member of the same family as cod, and they are often found in the same locations.

A specimen pollackPollack feed mainly on small fish but will also take marine worms. Good baits therefore include lugworm, ragworm and fish strips.
