Pollack of over 10lb (4.5kg) are frequently caught from wreck 'marks' around the coast of Wales. The Welsh rod-caught record was caught from a boat in Cardigan Bay in 1991 and weighed 22lb (10kg).
These hard-fighting fish also feature in catches from the rocks and occasionally from storm beaches.
The pollack is a member of the same family as cod, and they are often found in the same locations.
Pollack feed mainly on small fish
but will also take marine worms. Good baits therefore include lugworm,
ragworm and fish strips.
