Angelica sylvestris - Wild AngelicaThis summer-blooming umbelifer is related to the garden plant, Angelica archangelica, that is used for culinary purposes.
Wild angelica grows in damp places, and in particular beside lakes and streams; it can reach a height of two metres but more commonly grows to about a metre tall.
This is a perennial and its purplish stems are almost hairless, which helps distinguish it from the rather earlier-flowering hogweed. In Wales, wild angelica can be seen in bloom from July through until September.
