Consolida ambigua (Delphinium ambiguum)- Annual larkspur

Reminiscent of the cultivars to be found in English country cottages, these gorgeous wildflowers grow wild throughout the Mediterranean region, although they are absent from some of the smaller islands. We have found these wildflowers close to the coast, but they are also encouraged to grow in gardens. Annual larkspur is a member of the Buttercup family (Ranunculaceae).

Other species of Larkspur that occur in the Mediterranean include Eastern larkspur (Consolida orientalis), Forking larkspur (Consolida regalis or Delphinium consolida), and Consolida pubescens also called Delphinium pubescens.

This specimen was photographed in the Algarve in Portugal in May.
