Convolvulus tricolor - Dwarf convolvulus - Annual convolvulus - (Convolvulaceae)

This bindweed is to be found throughout the Mediterranean although it is less common as a wildflower in the extreme east of the region.

Convolvulus tricolor

This gorgeous flower is a close relative of common bindweed, the bane of many gardners' lives, but is probably equally loathed by the Mediterranean farmers whose tilled land this flower carpets from March right through to June when it provides an unforgettable picture. It is so attractive that it is also cultivated for garden ornament. It is a member of the Bindweed family (Convolvulaceae).

This specimen was photographed in the Algarve in Portugal in April.
