Dactylorhiza elata - Robust marsh-orchid

This magnificent orchid has large leaves and tall flower spikes. The plants often grow to 125 cm in height and are found in damp to wet habitats that benefit from full sunshine.

The robust marsh-orchid occurs in the western Mediterranean region and in Spain, Portugal, France and in some of central European countries including Bulgaria.

This specimens on this page were photographed in the Cele Valley which runs parallel to the Lot Valley in southern France in late May, and in Bulgaria in late June.
