Epipactis Tremolsii - (Orchidaceae)

The distribution of this orchid is confined to the western Mediterranean region where it grows in open mixed oak, cork oak and pine woodland.

Epipactis tremolsii

We have found it in woodlands in the mountains of the Algarve region of Portugal. It flowers rather earlier than Epipactis helleborine and can be found from April onwards - earlier in an early spring.

The specimen shown above was photographed in the mountains near Monchique in the Algarve region of Portugal in early May.
