Nepeta tuberosa
This large, imposing wildflower proved to be very difficult to identify, and our thanks go to the scientific staff of Kew Gardens for their kind assistance in the matter. It is a relative of common cat mint and is a native of Sicily and the Iberian Peninsula, where it flowers in April and May. It is a member of the Mint family (Lamiaceae).
This specimen was photographed in the Algarve in Portugal in April.
