Ononis pusilla - (Fabaceae)

Ononis pusilla

This member of the Pea family (Fabacae) which is common throughout the Mediterranean region prefers calcareous soils. It can form a substantial shrub and can be found on rocky and stony ground and also in open pine forests. It flowers from March to July.

This specimen was photographed in the Algarve, Portugal, in May.
