The Bumblebee Orchid is widespread in the Mediterranean region although absent from Cyprus..

Growing up to 25 cm in height this orchid can form in dense colonies. The flowers have very distinctive and relatively large green sepals. The lip is three-lobed and a brownish with a blue speculum.

The specimen above was photographed in Portugal on the Algarve in mid March..
