Phlomis fruticosa - Jerusalem Sage - (Lamiaceae)

This member of the Mint (Lamiaceae) family occurs in Italy, Sardinia and eastwards, including Cyprus. It also grows in Crete, but it is rarer there.

Phlomis fruticosa is an evergreen shrub with very woolly grey leaves. The flowers are yellow and are borne in whorls above one another. It flowers in April and through to June where it can be found on coastal cliffs and other rocky places.

This plant can be found in Sardinia, Italy and towards the eastern Mediterranean region.

This specimen was photographed in Crete.
