Symphytum officinale - Common Comfrey

This perennial plant loves riverbanks and damp hedgerows. The flowers appear in May and June, and they are a cream colour. Russian comfrey has blue or purple flowers; it is a hybrid of the common comfrey and a cream-flowered relative the tuberous comfrey (Symphytum tuberosum).

Common comfrey

At one time, comfrey leaves were used as dressings for cuts and bruises.
