Trollius europaeus - Globeflower - (Ranunculaceae)

These lovely yellow wildflowers can be found in both the UK and Ireland, but they are more common the further north you travel. They are also found in many northern European countries, too.

This larger-than-others member of the Ranunculus family reaches a heigh on 50 cm. The globe flower is often found in wet meadows and sometimes occurs in damp woodland and scrub areas.

Where they do occur, globe flowers can form large clumps and create a wonderful splash of colour during their blooming season in June, July and August.
