Brooklime is common throughout the UK and Ireland except for the far north.

This low-growing relative of the speedwells is found growing in slow-flowing streams and permanently wet places. At first glance it is easily mistaken for Water Forget-me-nots, but it has much thicker stems and larger leaves.

The flowers of the brooklime first appear in May, and in shady places this marsh plant generally continues blooming until September.
The plants on this page were photographed in West Wales in July.
