Tricholoma scoides

An common find under broad-leaf trees on calcareous soil, Tricholoma scoides often has lilaceous tints, which are a help in identification. This inedible species appears in autumn.

  This mushroom often appears in small groups beneath oak trees.

Cap

Up to 12 cm in diameter when fully mature, the caps are usually grey, darker in the centre and with radial lines.

Initially convex, the caps flatten, sometimes with a slight umbo.

Gills

Moderately well spaced apart, the gills are white.

The spores are white.

Stipe

Typically 10 to 20 mm in diameter, the stem is white.

Spore print

White.

Odour/taste

No noticeable odour.

Habitat

Broad-leaf woodland.

Season

July to October.

Occurrence

Fairly common

Similar species

  1. Tricholoma terreum Is similar in appearance but occurs mainly in coniferous woodland.
