Swallowtail - Papilio machaon

With climate change this once rare visitor to Britain is now seen rather more often, but it is still unusual to see it except for in the south-east of England. Swallotails are a very common sight in southern Europe and the Far East.

In Britain t he preferred habitat of this large, colourful butterfly is damp wildflower meadows, but elsewhere it frequents woodland edges and gardens too.
