Bluethroat - Luscinia svecica

Pictures - John Foss

The size of a robin, the male Bluethroat displays a beautiful iridescent blue and red bib which makes it unmistakable. By contrast, the female has a rather dull cream and black bib. Bluethroats feed on insects and berries. The specimen shown on this page was photographed in scrubland at Cabanas De Tavira.
