Formerly known merely as ‘Wild Duck’, the Mallard is perhaps the quintessential duck species. The bold and brightly coloured male could not contrast more with the sombre brown female.

Mallard is one of just five duck species regularly breeding in the Algarve and can be found on some salt pans and almost any stretch of freshwater throughout the region.
