Grey Heron - Ardea cinerea

Grey Heron 1

Grey Heron. Salinas de Tavira

The Grey Heron is essentially a non-breeding visitor to the Algarve, although it is a widespread breeding species in Portugal particularly in the south-central area of the country. Its preferred fishing method is to ‘wait-and-watch’ when it adopts a statuesque stance in the shallows of ponds, lakes or rivers as depicted in the accompanying photograph.
