Ferruginous Duck - Aythya nyroca

Pictures - John Foss

The male Ferruginous Duck is unique in sporting deep chestnut plumage with a blackish-brown black and white undertail-patch. Female similar but distinctly duller. The specimens on this page were photographed at Vilamoura reed beds where they outnumbered the Pochards.
