Black-winged Stilt - Himantopus himantopus

Pictures - John Foss

The Black-winged Stilt is easily identified by its striking red legs, which are clearly visible as it searches for food in shallow fresh or brackish water.
The specimens on this page were photographed at the Alvor Esturary and Cabanas de Tavira saltpans.
