Eurasian Magpie

The pied plumage and long tail make the Eurasian Magpie unmistakeable. 

“One for sorrow, two for joy…….” There are more sayings and superstitions relating to the Eurasian Magpie than one can shake a stick at. This generally widespread species was once surprisingly scarce in the Algarve but in the past twenty years it has become far commoner especially along, and close to, the south coast.
