Dactylorhiza x mixtum

Dactylorhiza x mixtum, a hybrid between the Common Spotted-orchid Dactylorhiza fuchsii and the Frog Orchid Dactylorhiza viridis, Wiltshire, 1964.

This lovely hybrid is a very rare find in Britain. The specimen shown here was growing on Pepperbox Hill near Salisbury, Wiltshire.

Etymology

The genus name Dactylorhiza means 'finger-like roots', while as it sounds the hybrid epithet mixtum simply means 'mixed'. Note: some authorities call this hybrid Dactylorhiza mixta.
