Lyophyllaceae Gallery

Lyophyllum (Domecaps) and allies

The Lyophyllaceae is a relatively new mycological family, having been established by Swiss mycologist Walter Jülich in 1981. This family constitutes a small group of pale-spored fungi fewer than 50 of which occur in the British Isles. The most commonly encountered genera are Asterophora (2 species in the UK), Calocybe (1 sp), Lyophyllum, the type genus of this family (~17 spp), and Tephrocybe (~30 spp).

For more information about Lyophyllus, Asterophora and Calocybe fungi and a deeper insight into the ecology and structure of species featured in our Lyophyllaceae Gallery pages, please see Pat O'Reilly's latest book Fascinated by Fungi.
